We use our 30+ years of experience in the industry to make sure that we are providing our customers with the very best work possible.  We won't rush or cut corners like a lot of other contractors; Family 1st team believes quality comes first. We have an eye for detail and won't leave a job until the customer is completely satisfied.

We have done the research to make sure that we can offer non-toxic and safe building materials that ALSO perform up to our high standards.  According to the National Human Activity Pattern Survey, Americans spend 87% of their time indoors, with 69% of that time in their own residence. Unfortunately, many of our homes were made or updated using cheap, solvent and formaldehyde-laden materials which can be harmful to your health.  Our goal here at Family 1st is to help improve your indoor health by using non-toxic, VOC-free building materials & supplies which we have carefully chosen in order to give YOU the best options when building or remodeling your home. It's great for your family AND for the earth!

Over the years, we have seen the dysfunction in the construction industry.  It is standard practice to use the cheapest materials & labor possible which are then marked up an outrageous amount; this leads to customers getting toxic, poor quality materials used in their homes with sloppy craftsmanship.  We strive to perform the opposite here at Family 1st.  Since we operate with a low overhead, our business model ensures that our customers get way more value and quality for their money.

When you choose Family 1st, you will be directly supporting another Oregon family, not some big company or faceless shareholders.  We directly communicate with our customers and every job is handled with the utmost care.  We believe in creating a positive relationship with every customer!

Family 1st Building & Remodeling was started by Joseph (Joey) Santavicca & Diana Forsberg in January of 2020.  Partners in business and in real-life, Joey and Diana recognized the need to provide families in central Oregon and beyond a way to build & remodel their homes in a non-toxic and earth-friendly way, while keeping to top-notch quality standards.

 
Joseph is a Master Carpenter with 30 years of experience, with 20+ years of that as an owner of his own general contracting businesses in western Pennsylvania and here in Oregon.  After years of observing the industry standards where contractors buy the cheapest (and most toxic) materials that they outrageously markup, he knew there was a better way that involved higher quality craftsmanship and a consideration for a healthy indoor environment. He has a great attention for detail and always keeps our job sites as clean and tidy as possible!

Diana is a Jill-of-all-trades and mother of 4.  She has always been passionate about keeping her family healthy and being gentle on the environment.  After researching the amount of toxic additives, solvents, and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) that are seen in conventional building materials, she knew she needed to find safer products that she could share with other families. She has now been working hard since 2020 to keep up the office side of things while still homeschooling her children. Her next project is getting her Property Management license!
